State of the City

October, 2015

It is hard to believe, but it has been more than a year since the voters approved incorporation of Jonesville from a village to a city.  The effort was supported with fairly simple goals: consolidating services for Jonesville residents and taxpayers in a single local government, reducing the tax millage through elimination of the township property tax, and governing the City with a Charter that kept operations similar to those offered by the village.

There have been many milestones this year toward accomplishing these goals.  We have prepared a simple summary of these accomplishments.  The summary will be sent out in November with the winter tax bills.  Or you can view it here at the link below.

Of course, the consolidation of services means that the City of Jonesville has full responsibility for the additional services of elections, assessing, tax collection, and operation of the Sunset View Cemetery.  Those services are being provided without increasing the local property tax millage rate.  And the fiscal year 2015-2016 budget that began on July 1st (and includes these new services) is balanced.

As always, I welcome your comments, questions and feedback.  I can be reached at City Hall at 849-2104 or at manager@jonesville.org.
